ASSYRIAN STREET

Dear Subscribers, I know it has been a long time since we've contacted you regarding our Sunday special events. We are proud to announce that we have refined our focus and materialised the original idea behind these dinners into a new concept.  Long before we opened our doors we had two key visions; to give back to community and to use food as a vessel to facilitate understanding and share culture. We believe one way to achieve this is to connect with families and communities who have come to Australia as refugees. To understand their culture and tradition through food. We have been fortunate enough to partner with CORE Settlement Services and the Refugee Council of Australia on this initiative. CORE Settlement Services Program assists newly arrived refugees, humanitarian entrants and migrants by enhancing their knowledge and access to local services. Support provided includes; casework, community education, support groups and capacity building.  The purpose of the Refugee Council of Australia is to work with its members in promoting the development of humane, lawful and constructive policies towards refugees and people seeking asylum by Australian and other governments and their communities. Our first dinner in this series is hosted by three Assyrian sisters who will prepare a traditional dinner for us.  On Sunday 31st of March at 6pm we bring you "Assyrian Street".  This event falls on the Assyrian New Year and will feature traditional food, beverages and music. All proceeds from this dinner will be donated to the community. Please join us in celebrating the Assyrian New Year and sharing in this rich culture through food. There will only be 23 seats available so be sure to book in early. Booking can be made in store or via emailing reserve@8things.com.au. Cost for the dinner and entertainment is $75 per person. BYO only.
